National Qualifications Framework (NQF)

The NQF is formerly known as the National Database of Accredited Qualifications (NDAQ). The database contains details of qualifications that are accredited by the government’s regulatory organisations in England (QCA), Wales (DCELLS) and Northern Ireland (CCEA). Users can search for details on current and expired accredited qualifications.

Qualifications and Curriculum Development Agency (QCDA)

The QCDA develop the curriculum, improve and deliver assessments, and review and reform qualifications. Prior to being taken over in 2010, the aim of the QCDA was to make sure everyone can get the knowledge, skills and qualifications they need for life in the 21st century through educational opportunities.

Young People's Learning Authority (YPLA)

The YPLA was established by the Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Act 2009 and launched in April 2010. Sponsored by the Department for Education, the YPLA exist to support the delivery of training and education to all 16 – 19 year olds in England. The YPLA provide information and support on funding of Post 16 education and training programmes.

Functional Skills Support Programme (FSSP)

Prior to August 2010, the Functional Skills Support Programme provided central support for Post 16 functional skills learners and providers. National Strategies have taken over the role for supporting LAs and schools with functional skills, until March 2011 (http://nationalstrategies.standards.dcsf.gov.uk/secondary/functionalskills). Duke of Edinburgh's Award

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is a programme of activities offered to young adults between the ages of fourteen and twenty-five. There are three Awards to choose from: Bronze, Silver and Gold. Each Award has a Skill, Service, Physical and Expedition section that must be completed. For the Gold Award a Residential section must also be completed.

Princes Trust

The Prince’s Trust is a UK charity that helps young people overcome barriers and get their lives working. The Prince’s Trust offer ‘XL’ clubs that can be run in schools three hours per week. The XL Award is accredited by ASDAN and is in the process of applying for points that will be transferable to the National Framework.

Sports Leaders UK

Sports Leaders UK is the new operating name of the British Sports Trust. The registered charity aims to inspire people and communities through leadership qualifications in sport. Some of the awards are transferable as points/credits on the National Framework.

The Scouts Association

The Scout Association provides adventurous activities and personal development opportunities for 400,000 young people aged between six and twenty-five. Whilst Scout awards are not on the National Framework, young adults that are working towards Scout (and Guide) badges and awards can often cross-reference their achievements to Duke of Edinburgh Award sections and to Key Skill challenges.

The Health and Safety Executive and local Government are the enforcing authorities working in suport of the Health and Safety Commission. The Commision are responsible for health and safety regulation in Great Britain.
